I found this while playing around at my parents house the other day. I initially thought it had something to do with their property because only the number was visible after a quick wipe...it happened to be the same as their street address. I took it in to show my Mom, and after giving it a quick rinse, I was surprised to see it was a railroad item! This particular railway operated under that name from 1896 until 1904, when it was aquired by the CB&Q. We live a short ways from Galesburg Illinois, which is a large railroad hub and once had a roundhouse for the CB&Q railroad.

As luck would have it, I found another baggage check tag this week. This one is from the Peoria & Oquawka Railroad and is pretty darn old. The P&O was given charter in 1849 and ended up as part of the CB&Q in 1861. Best I can tell, there was a lot of turmoil getting it built and I can't find anything that says trains actually ran the line during this time. The tracks that were laid are still an operational line thru the little town I live in! I have emailed pictures to a site that said they would help value my tags, but so far, no answers. Can anyone give me a direction for finding value on these two tags?

Yes, sent him an email last week, but no response.

I sent an email with pictures, hopefully he is not the individual in the obituary!!

Cool .
I'd Keep -em.

Well, it's Aug 1st, and I haven't received a response from either of my emails. I fear that the Dale Fenton with the tag knowledge may also be the one in the obituary. Anybody else have any clue as to how I can value these?

They are very cool! I checked on Worthpoint and couldn't find any others for those specific railroads. The price range I found on tags went to a high of about $600. I googled and found that there is a "Chicago Railroadiana (Railroad Collectables) & Model Train Show and Sale" scheduled for this October. Maybe you could take them there to get some additional info -
