Looks like clay, possibly from a fireplace or something

i figured clay since there are alot of roman clay working site around but they ring up on the detector and pinpointer

Aha! If these are metal, which it looks like, it's artillery schrapnel, either WWI or WWII. We find the same stuff on the Delaware and Maryland beaches where they did practice firings back in the day.

Here's a piece of shrapnel that ended up in my grandfathers hand in Germany in WW2. He said its energy was mostly spent so didn't do that much damage. Lucky. Gary

Yup, shrapnel. One of my early detecting buddies (RIP John) was a bomber pilot in WW2 over Germany. It might be something he dropped!

glad he made it through. My grandpa was in WW2 as well, he met my grandma during the war. The pieces i have are indeed shrapnel. I also have a primer from a mine.
