I dug this at a 1700's/1800's site yesterday and after a light cleaning realized it was an 1864 "small motto" and according to the charts its in extremely fine condition. This is the first semi valuable coin(not that price matters) that I've dug. Thanks for looking guys.

1864 2c "Small Motto" in Extra Fine, Red Books at $500. Great find!

Hi Matt; Great Find., Condition because of CORROSION is reduced by one Grade thus making it a VF Condition Coin. Still very nice. Red Book value is $375 ok. Keep it going. PEACE:RONB

Awesome find and in such good condition for a dug coin! Congrats!

That is a Sweet Looking Coin and now on my Bucket List.

Thanks guys.

Great Coin!! New avatar for you? Congrats!

cool find and so old. congrats

I said it yesterday (this morning?) great patina!

Congrats... nice coin. :thumbsup:

As far as value and grade, the Red Book is not a very good source;

Try this: Two Cents NumisMedia Price Guide-Good-MS60

It is not bad, the best value is the "Gray Sheet" dealers use. With that said these values are what one would likely pay to purchase a coin. Dealer need to pay less to make a profit.

Grading from a photo is always a bit hard, but having dug two cent'ers up in that condition, it is likely not to grade high, surface and corrosion will likely take several grades from it. It is damaged to the ground as are all coppers. :unhappysmiley:

Great find and has value, just not quite as much as some here suggest.

Nice, that's a very beautiful coin, nice save. :thumbsup:

I particularly like the two cent piece. A FINE example of coin design and make up.

Congrats!

better than the brown, worn-down, almost unreadable crap I have. ..she is a beauty!
