I dug this at a 1700's/1800's site yesterday and after a light cleaning realized it was an 1864 "small motto" and according to the charts its in extremely fine condition. This is the first semi valuable coin(not that price matters) that I've dug. Thanks for looking guys.

Absolutely beautiful. Congratulations.

Congratulations on a beautiful coin!

And yes, I understand it is in "dug" condition, but the details are certainly EF.

Outstanding !

I'd be over the moon to find a coin that old and in that condition. Fantastic find! Well done.

Very nice! Great find!

sweet 2-center :icon_thumleft:

Great coin, congrats!!

Wow, great condition for a dug coin Matt. Regardless of monetary value that's a first-class find you've got there. Congrats.

Very nice coin...

Screw the book value because that 1 would be so sweet to have in my display ...but is always very nice to know what things are worth.

Congrats very nice !!!!

Congrats on a really nice find! Due to the great condition of the surfaces of the coin, I believe that with a good soaking in Mineral Oil or Extra Virgin Olive Oil, the remaining crustations can likely removed from the coin fairly easily with the use of green Rose Thorns. Once done, it is a very good possibility that the coin will be in such nice condition that no one would ever be able to tell that it was a dug coin. Even if you tell them that it was dug, they may be very surprised. Once cleaned, just make sure that you lightly rinse it off and pat dry between the folds of a soft towel (do not rub as it can leave hairlines), then secure it in a 2x2.

Digging in pasture land makes all the difference in the world. Coins like that dug in our fertilized fields would be almost unrecognizable. Super find Matt!

Was in red clay. Gotta love red clay for it's lovely preservation abilities!

Matt,Congrats on a great 2 center! I have an 1868 but the "we" is worn off in the motto. Keep plugging and you'll find some yeller "color" pieces in the area cause the date's right.HH....

Congradulation on the 2 Cent (er ), I've only found (1 ) in 30 years of Detecting. If you decide to try and clean it. I put my coins in a pot of Boiling water to lossen the crud, then take a Tooth Pick. Now trying a Chinese-Japanese -Chop Sticks.I mainly Search the Beach, This Coin was nothing but a Disc, until I cleaned it, Also Picture of 2 days Detecting last May 2013-Buttons on the Left and Coins on the right.
