I think you better go back to metal detecting. It's safer.

I go rattlesnake hunting every time I got off my quad, outta my Jeep, or anywhere outside of town... I wouldn't hurt them (We are already OVERRAN with jackrabbits) I just hunt them to avoid stepping on one... like I almost did last week. Got lucky, he just didn't quite have the range with his strike. Got close enough to make me sweat though! I even pull the pants up and the sock and boot off to make sure!

Here in Kentucky we have timber rattlers. Much more aggressive than the western diamond back. We also have lots of copperheads, also an aggressive snake. I do not kill to many snakes, and if I do I grill them over a nice campfire. Good luck and be carefull.

Uhhh so this person would rather have his wife reach into a rattlesnake den? :o

Mmmmmkay.....
;D

a long piece of hose, shot or two of gas -pour down hose-blow fumes in den.they will come out,be careful .stand on the back side of hole when doing this!!!! as soon as you see his head coming out .pin it down with, forked stick or snake stick.very effective ,we used to do this when i was in high school-you can sell them for anti-venom,skin them for the hides, sell the meat (tastes like chickin) ha-had to put that in there.but we used to catch gopher turtles, with a long wire (with a hook) stick in the hole flop it around if it has a turtle you will hear it hit his shell .hook him and pull him out.very hard.then sell them for gas money-or running money.if there was no turtle-you stick in the garden hose and listen for rattlers.very often they use the same dens.but we made a lot of money doing this and we were young back in the late 70s early 80s.it was easy work and fun too.when you grow up in the country you have to be creative when it comes to finances and cheap entertainment. :o ::) ;D :D ;)

I love hunting rattlesnakes here in Ohio. When I was younger, I hunted massasaugas-(Sistrurus catenatus), for the Columbus Zoo and Fish and Wild Life at Killdear Plains State Park. All are protected in Ohio now. Thanks.

We are fixing to have a rattlesnake hunt in a couple weeks. We bought 25 acres recently and everytime we go we run into a rattler, the property is not over crowded with brush infact 20 acres was field and now is just starting the grass and shrub regrowth. So we have decided we better clear out as many of them as we can before someone gets bit. We also have a hunting ranch and we have killed 2 huge over 6ft rattlers the past month there. I have heard from many ranchers that this year the rattlers are more aggressive and a lot of times they are striking before rattling, which is common in early spring when they are still blind, but by this time of the year they should be pretty lazy and keeping out of your way.

Where I am from one small town has a rattlesnake round up--in the old days you would hunt your ranches and bring in your snakes and folks would buy them from you. Now you just go and its a fair and they have a pit of rattlers to look at. Another town close to there has the rattlesnake races--you actually sign up pay money, put on leggings, get a stick and compete against each other racing a rattlesnake..and yes people do get bit doing this somethimes. You can either bring your own rattler or choose one they have on hand.

See all the redneck jokes probably are true...because you know they ain't in there right mind to do this, and whats worse my husband has done it for several years and has even won a couple times. You get a certificate, a ribbion , and your $10 entry fee for winning . See I told you they are crazy.
