RE: Low Alpha Lead

Odessy Marine Exploation recently attempted to recover an sizable quantity of the
Low alpha lead from a shipwreak of the WWII era. Samples of the cargo were obtained
and a staff member was dispatched to a laboratory in the US for testing and verification.
The operation was partially chronicaled on the 3 disk DVD set that is sold in their
"ships store" area of their web site. The low alpha element of Pb is worth quite a bit more
than plumbers lead commonly available for musket shot casting and the like today.
Like some of the previous posters have stated it is used in specialzed applications of the
electronics industry. Odessey is a publicly traded company with a NASD listing of OMEX.
The ALPHA of low alpha refers to the classic levels of RADIATION strengh. ALPHA is
the weaker (common). BETA (moderate) and GAMMA (dead duck in a few minutes).
