Relic Hunting
Hello Everyone,

This is day two working that old muddy snow covered field near my home. Today, more of the green Earth was showing through, but the water and mud increased exponentially. I used the Garrett AT Gold – small coil, “wide open” carefully listening to any favorable tones among the iron blanket. I used the small coil yesterday with some nice results. Using the small coil means less coverage, but better target separation and that is what was needed for this particular place. Therefore, using a small coil, slow sweep speed and walking with the idea of overlapping each swing by 50% yield two nice old coin finds. The two coin keepers were: 1793 2-Real and an 1888 Seated Liberty dime, both in very nice condition and holed (looks like I can make some jewelry to wear). For Relics: 3 ½ buttons, piece of a harmonica reed, spoon part, valve part and rivet for leather connections. The Iron was huge today with the total being close to 20 pounds; all part of being a relic hunter. I hope to hit this place all week if the weather holds out and see what other treasures are hiding beneath the muddy soil.

Thank you for looking.

GL & HH

Doc

Two Sweet old silvers, Awesome day!!

Awesome old silver. Spanish silver is on my list, hard to find here, but doable. Congrats!!!

Awesome finds Doc! It may take longer with the small coil, but I get the feeling you're to find a lot more great coins- GL!!

Excellent take away Professor! I wish you would teach me how to do that.

I am a silver coin guy, and those are two excellent silver coins.

The 2R really nice. Wow.

Nice haul Doc! It was pretty nice out Sunday. Nice and warm but the ground was still a bit frozen. Monday was a bit colder.
What day was better for your finds?
Snow is almost melted. Looking forward to going out swinging!!!

Congrats on those 2 old silvers Doc. :occasion14: I hate the mud, cakes on the boots and it is hard to walk after a while. I like to hit the fields when they are a little dryer.

Nice job on 2 great coins. You just cant beat digging Spanish silver from a field. Sometimes I swear my boots are each 10 lbs. heavier with all the mud that cakes up on them. Always seems to be worth it though.

Great hunt Professor and sweet Spanish silver. I really like how much iron you dug since that's what most of my targets are too, but every now and then a killer piece of iron turns up. :occasion14:

Your title says it all. Very nice coins! I like your advice too!
