I am just now able to post results of some recent hunts on several sites including a Rev War officer's house (first hunt there), two tavern sites (which I had already hit hard), my gold ring yard (second hunt there) and an old farm that I call the Buckle Graveyard.

The Rev War officer's yard was unfortunately covered with a lot of fill in the front yard. The back yard was a parking lot, and the side yard gave up a crotal bell and cool patriotic button with and eagle under a banner that says E Pluribus Unum and United States of America around the rim. Albert's book has it as an Unclassified button, but may people think it is a patriotic button.

The gold ring yard gave up another handful of wheat ear pennies and a little lead car, but still no silver. At the older tavern site I only got a cufflink and a small button. The second, 1830 - 1860 tavern gave up a button, a small strap buckle, and a 1857 Seated Dime.

All 5-19-18.webp Older stuff.webp

The Seated Dime probably has AU-50 details, but it had some type of trauma along the one edge at about 8 o'clock. I'm not sure what could have done this to a silver coin, but it even shows signs of delamination on the reverse.

Here is the patriotic button. Not the best picture though :dontknow:

Here is yesterday's hunt at the Buckle Graveyard. By the looks of the farmhouse, it must be at least 1850 or older, but all I seem to find is horse tack buckles. I did get a small child's stirrup yesterday.

Congratulations on the relics and old coins! :occasion14:

The seated is in very good shape :icon_thumleft:

nice haul can you show the bottom of the stirrup please

Nice finds! My grandpa found that same button and we also figured it was a patriotic button.

That’s a great hunt

Good to see you digging the old stuff Steve-o. Great seated and the button is nice as well. I’ve see delaminates now of 1840’s coins I’ve found but only on times (2- 1852’s). I figure planchet defects were to blame.

Thanks Steve. Others have also said a planchet defect as a possible cause. I don't find many seated silvers (this is only my third). The delamination was a bit of a bummer because the condition is so nice otherwise, but it is a high mintage coin and not all that valuable anyway.

okay i asked you because it almost looked like one i found a while back thanks
I have several stirrups that I have preserved, including one of this style. I'll get a picture tonight so you can see the bottom as well as the size difference compared to the others.

That seated dime is beautiful, and you've had a great hunt overall - congrats on it all! :occasion14:

Nice assortment of finds and that silver is just awesome. Congrats.

Nice seated Steve. I've probably found parts of two or three crotal bells but never a whole one but wouldn't mind adding a whole one for my display. Nice digs brother!

Thanks Joey. The weird thing about this crotal bell is it is marked #5. Seems like all the others I've dug or seen were marked with even numbers.

Above all that seated dime is awesome.

Here are a few stirrups I have saved along with the most recent one. You can see how small it is compared to the others.

Great finds Steve! Is that the same tavern site you've been pulling nice keepers for a while now? I like the button, but any hunt with a Seated Silver is awesome. Congrats!!
