I am just now able to post results of some recent hunts on several sites including a Rev War officer's house (first hunt there), two tavern sites (which I had already hit hard), my gold ring yard (second hunt there) and an old farm that I call the Buckle Graveyard.

The Rev War officer's yard was unfortunately covered with a lot of fill in the front yard. The back yard was a parking lot, and the side yard gave up a crotal bell and cool patriotic button with and eagle under a banner that says E Pluribus Unum and United States of America around the rim. Albert's book has it as an Unclassified button, but may people think it is a patriotic button.

The gold ring yard gave up another handful of wheat ear pennies and a little lead car, but still no silver. At the older tavern site I only got a cufflink and a small button. The second, 1830 - 1860 tavern gave up a button, a small strap buckle, and a 1857 Seated Dime.

All 5-19-18.webp Older stuff.webp

The Seated Dime probably has AU-50 details, but it had some type of trauma along the one edge at about 8 o'clock. I'm not sure what could have done this to a silver coin, but it even shows signs of delamination on the reverse.

Here is the patriotic button. Not the best picture though :dontknow:

Here is yesterday's hunt at the Buckle Graveyard. By the looks of the farmhouse, it must be at least 1850 or older, but all I seem to find is horse tack buckles. I did get a small child's stirrup yesterday.

Great finds Steve! Is that the same tavern site you've been pulling nice keepers for a while now? I like the button, but any hunt with a Seated Silver is awesome. Congrats!!
Actually there are two tavern sites relatively close to each other. The older, 1790s - 1820s site covers a pretty large area and I have been hunting it hard since 2012. I've dug about 17 Spanish silvers there. The later, 1830s - 1860s tavern covers a much smaller area and that's where I found the seated dime.

Here are a few stirrups I have saved along with the most recent one. You can see how small it is compared to the others.[/QUO

mine does not match the bottom side of them but it is a s big as the smallest one though thanks for posting those pics

Awesome finds. Great job! [emoji16]

Very nice collection of finds Steve! Is the buckle graveyard farm the spot we hit the one evening?

Yep that's the place. I have probably dug 25 horse tack buckles off that place in just three trips. The property owner told me the earlier owners were still working that farm with horses into the 1940s.

Awesome finds, Steve! Still hoping for my 1st crotal bell one of these days. Congrats!

"The property owner told me the earlier owners were still working that farm with horses into the 1940s."
From my understanding from my dad and uncles who grew up on farms in NW Ohio in the 40's, this was largely due to the fact that the farmers had tractors during WWII but couldn't effectively use them (very much/often) due to wartime fuel rationing, so they "reverted" to using horses for cultivating etc. Some use of pre-1920s steam powered tractors up through WWII as well. Although I am sure there were some farms that never really invested in tractors in the teens/twenties/thirties etc.

I don't think that place was ever hit. That field got signals galore. Can't wait to see you pull an old copper or early silver out of there.

Amazing finds! You certainly find some of the best stuff out of everyone on tnet.

LOL it has plenty of signals but none of them are coins! Haven't even found an Indian Head Penny there yet :dontknow:

Thanks Louis, but that may be stretching things a bit :laughing7:

WTG Steve! Awesome finds! I can't wait to get back into some PA fields later this year!

Very cool, thanks for the picture! I will save a copy for my files
Picture looks like the vest was in a museum. Was there any age/attribution for this vest?

It's in a historical society with only a date range, no formal attribution.

Well done buddy. That’s a really nice button

You dug some nice finds there Steve.
