Great collection Bill, especially the Elizabeth 1 and Charles 1 coins. As you know there's no better feeling than an hammered silver in your hand. :icon_thumright: :icon_thumleft:

Bill D.,

First, that is a NICE collection you have there. Way to do it!

Second, I have detectors, but with my work, I never have time to go. (Just lamenting...), A question for
you, or anyone for that matter. I am wondering if anyone, anywhere, has found, or heard of being found,
the strikes or punches, or dies, whatever you call them, that these type of coins were hammered with?
I've never seen any personally,...Hmmmm.

Just curious..........

Finding a coin die would almost certainly be a counterfiet die, and if not talk about one super rare find! Something that is along the same idea is button molds and they are found from time to time.

A few years back I read about a trial piece, or rare die, that didn't look like anything great but sold for a fortune. I think it might have been an early dollar but not sure.

Dies in the UK were tightly controlled. They were distroyed after use & any that have been found in lost mints are in the British Museum. Never heard of anyone finding one metal detecting in the UK.

I would carry that photo in my wallet.
Amazing.
I'm at one.
Only one.

That's one great amount of work to obtain that number. Very nice indeed. :icon_thumright:

To mimic the British droll sense of humor, nice bits and pieces. Or as we say in U.S.A.: GR8!

Bill, let me know if you need help carrying gear to and from those sites.. :icon_pirat:

Simply amazing!

I think Bill probably did the same thing when he found some of those ;D (especially the spread English hammered cache)

O.O I've managed 3 in roughly two years.....I need to pick up the pace! ;D

That is truly AMAZING!!Not many can say they have attained that goal.My buddy Ironman is closing in on his 100th Seated and that too is epic!

Ok, lets do the math here.... 3 in two years, so that's 6 in 4, and 12 in 8 and.... so on and so on...

= Freakin never will you make 100! :laughing9:

But don't feel bad because I have detected about the same time as Bill and I think I'd be lucky to be at 30 including billon.

Not even sure what my Frenchies are. I didn't count them for a long time but started leaning that way when the higher grade French woud not show up. Now that I dug one in the Spring I'll probably leave my billon off the count.

We count them with the Roman Silver count but never silver washed (plated), as most times its more silver than not (but not always true in some periods of Roman Rule)
