Red Skelton's Pledge of Allegiance

This was sent to me by a man, former soldier in Vietnam, and long-time (50+ years) friend, who said to me:

Beth, I know you will appreciate this. Pass it on if you do. I'm passing it on here.

I remember watching him. Always love to watch his show he was great.....Matt

Re: Red Skelton's Pledge of Allegiance

We always watched him at the grandparents house when I was a kid. He was a special kind of man that doesn't appear to exist anymore.

Re: Red Skelton's Pledge of Allegiance

I believe he did this in the late 1960's.

I loved watching his shows. His insight gave me goosebumps.

I have seen that several times and have read his version also mom even has a copy of it on her wall which from time to time I will re-read. He is one of the great comedians ever born.

Great stuff. Thanks for posting it.

It's too bad Red didn't recite Todays Facts.

14 trillion in debt, and more people in prison than any other developed country per capital: 2.3 million behind bars. It's one of the few growth industries!

I am afraid it is becoming the land of the indebted and imprisoned, and is no longer the home of the free and the brave.

Sad, but that is what I took away from watching this.

What we've lost.

Re: Red Skelton's Pledge of Allegiance

The words can sound hollow in the face of reality, but things can change...oops, don't want to use that word...how about "people can wake up."

Easy solution.

Stop financing stuff you can't afford and stop breaking the law.

Re: Red Skelton's Pledge of Allegiance

Let's take one set of laws - the tax code. 17,000 pages.

(forget the rest!)

Why should it take an accountant to stay out of jail...

We have hired law makers for 200 years.... where are the law repealers?

We can't just keep piling laws up and imprisoning our people. The system WILL break.

...will? How 'bout "has"... :help:

THAT is a great question, imo - one I have asked for years and years.

When our forefathers set up the "legislative" branch, I believe they did not have in mind what has happened. Yes, they are the law-making power, but they are also responsible for legislating things away, too.

It seems like, after almost 235 years, we have layers and layers and layers of laws. Except for things like prohibition and slavery, their record
for repealing laws is horrible. I don't think that's what our forefathers had in mind.

Remember the days when "debtor's prisons" was against the law????

I shudder when I think of what Red Skelton said - "wouldn't it be terrible if". He got it right, "terrible" is what we have.

I believe Jefferson and Adams feared, and even laid warning, that the biggest risk in forming a new government was the growth of too much governmental influence and power.

Re: Red Skelton's Pledge of Allegiance

Hello, Beth, I have seen this one before, too, but it is respectfully done and always a pleasure to see and hear.
Karen and I were regular watchers of his shows right up until he did his last one. He was one of the best.
Thanks for sharing it.

Yeah, thanks for sharing. I grew up watching him on VHS. I admire guys like him..... he even stayed humble and "real" after the death of his son.
