Here is an item that was found on a shipwreck site that me and Callicles are working. What is it? It has some remnants of wood still underneath the brass. spike.webp

Reminds me of a whale hook???

Looks like a tool from logging, minus the long wooden handle.

In modern term, it's the tip to a pike pole, which are used when rafting logs in a pond.

B1.webp The modern ones have aluminum poles or handles. The head is mounted in wood, and crimped into the aluminum. I've used pike poles with all wood handles also, but that was back in the 70's. Depending on the size of the creek, someone might have been rafting logs. Or it could have been damed and used for a log pond. My uncle lived in the location of an old, huge log pond, but you would never know that now. They rafted redwood logs in that pond, and now you can't even see where the dam was. Oops, you said it was a ship wreck site, my guess would be they used to raft logs in that location, or perhaps loaded logs or cants onto ships there.

Looks like a pike pole end , used in logging or hooking logs , also used in firefighting for pulling ceilings and .checking for fire spread

They used those pikes to peel pieces off of a whale carcass.
