Relic Hound Plays Hooky From School To Hunt with the Tenn. Trio & Dixiedigger

Dixiedigger and his young nephew Relic Hound from Southern Tennessee invited Dman and me to relic hunt with them during the Summer of 2010. We all dug relics and became fast friends. Dixiedigger has been very busy with his EMT training during the Winter and had precious time to hunt at all. I called him last weekend and invited him to go hunting with Josh and me today. Even though Dman could not hunt right now due to his shoulder, I promised we would detour to his store for a visit. Dixiedigger (Andy) asked if he could bring the Relic Hound (Ryan) IF his parents would agree and his teachers would let him miss a day. His Dad said that he would learn more from us than he would in school today anyway-LOL. I did type out a two page history of the large CW camp where we have been digging relics over the past 4 or 5 trips. The last 3 trips have yielded one eagle button per trip and we knew the Hound had only dug one eagle previously.
The rain was beginning to taper off so we decided to visit Dman's store before our hunt. The Hound and Dman had a great visit. Dman presented him with some bottles that he had dug while detecting and a roll of wheat pennies for the Hound's collection. He even went to the bank and got the C.S.A. buckle that he found last Fall from his lock box so the guys could see it. Andy and Ryan really enjoyed seeing the relics and coins that Dman has recovered as shown in the first two pics. Dman was dying to go hunting with us but his shoulder still hurts a lot.
The rain stopped and we headed to the large U.S. camp to meet Josh. Our finds from our 4 hour hunt are shown in the 3rd pic. The Hound found that coat size eagle button with a little help from Josh. I helped him locate a few bullets but he did well on his own. Andy dug several bullets including a nice dropped .31 cal. pointed pistol bullet. I think that's the first from that site. Josh hit a honey hole and dug two eagle buttons, the square lead piece, and the triangle hook for a knapsack. After Ryan found the eagle button, I made him talk to Dman on my cell. Dman told him that he had to buy lunch since he dug that eagle button but Ryan insisted that Josh dug it-LOL. Dman told him to just buy him a Porterhouse steak with baked potato and bring it by his store on the way back-LOL.
Andy, Ryan, and Josh posed for a picture together as we left. We cleaned Ryan's relics at my home and displayed them in the box with the blue felt background. Andy and Ryan are shown at my home before they left for the 2 hour drive back in the last pic.
I know the Hound learned a lot about Tennessee CW history today and hopefully has memories of hunting with his Uncle and visiting the Tenn. Trio that will last a lifetime. Right before they left, I told Ryan "A bad day detecting is better than a good day at school-LOL". HH from Ryan, Andy Dman, & Josh, Quindy.

Re: Relic Hound Plays Hooky From School To Hunt with the Tenn. Trio & Dixiedigger

Thanks to all who looked and especially TO:

Hutch; Thanks for looking.

Andy; He probably did Bud.

Mike; he's a true VOLS fan.

Andy (Dixiedigger); You are welcome and Dman will make our next hunting adventure.

Steve; It is a cool store. He charges me double -10% for clothes of course-LOL.

Rob; We had a great day visiting and hunting.

James; Thanks and congrats on the roll you have been on lately.

Jeff; Thanks for looking in from Russia.

Herbie; He's fortunate to have 3 very large display cases in his cool store so his customers can enjoy viewing hs finds.

Debby; we had a SUPER day for sure.

Nana; I just hope the Hound didn't get expelled today-LOL

Getty; I just hope he keeps the enthusiasm for the hobby that he has today-he loves it.

Jesse; There are rattlesnakes on that hill and I'm glad none of the hunting party met up with one. I guess the laughing ran them off-LOL.

Ty; WE are the lucky ones to know a young man who enjoys CW history these days instead of trying to forget it even happened.

Again, thanks to all who looked and had a comment, Quindy.

Ahhh those guys had a good time. They look like turkey hunters. If they are from Winchester,Tn they need to invite you over towards Monteagle for a hunt.
Nice finds great story and good friends

Its nice Relic Hound will fast track your guys knowledge & grow to be a great hunter, problem is its not like the 1970s anymore, so new untouched spots are needed to up his game

Floyd, you know how hard it is to find relics these days. Hopefully, we can give him a good start. We actually found more relics than I anticipated at that site. HH, Quindy.

They did last Summer Richard and I dug a nice little carved chess piece along with several pulled bullets. As to the Camo, I guess they thought that I didn't have permission to hunt that property-LOL. Just kidding, I've had permission from both landowners for many years. HH

We helped his Uncle Andy (Dixiedigger) locate a walnut 12x18 display box that he bought for Ryan last Christmas and he already has it full of relics even before this hunt. He's off and running, Quindy.

You are so right Cru!!! In the future, I envision satellite scanning being a great aid to relic hunters who can chip in and buy satellite time for scanning a section for lead and brass to help locate new sites. I know for sure that the technology has been there since the 1980s for the military. Even in the 1980s, the satellite could pass over a cemetery and trained Army soldiers in a special unit ( I had a friend in that unit) could count the bone fragments on high resolution. The company commander of one of the four units granted me permission to go with them on one of those missions but a national emergency came up and their unit had to deploy elsewhere and I missed my opportunity to see the technology in action. They can scan an area as small as a football field up to one mile square. Newer technology in detectors offering more depth will aid Ryan too. Thanks for looking and I always appreciate your expertise when I'm lucky enough to dig a foreign coin here. You are absolutely the best on identifying foreign coins and the associated history on the internet. HH and keep posting, Quindy.

Very nice Quindy. That's what it is all about. Teaching a young man the hobby and giving him a very nice display case to show his friends. Kudo's to you all.

He's already a seasoned hunter Randy. He told that he's between girlfriends right now and that plus getting to miss a day of school is probably why we got him out to hunt-LOL. Thanks for looking, Quindy.

He probably won't ever recover coins and relics as old as the ones you do HISPAN but you never know. He may go "pro" later and hunt the world. Thanks for stopping by. Q.

Dawg, as you read all my posts you may have already guessed that's the U.S. infantry, artillery, and cavalry camp commanded by Brig. Gen. George Crook in 1863. Thanks and HH, Quindy.

Colleen, I talked to Andy (Dixiedigger) yesterday and he asked Ryan (Relic Hound) if he took his finds from last Tuesday to School with him on Wednesday. Ryan said that he did not because he was afraid someone would steal it-LOL. HH to you and Joe, Quindy.
