Well I spent the afternoon with Buckle Boy yesterday, and we went and it some old housesites I had found on an old map from 1892.We found mason jar lids out the wazoo and lots of iron.We popunded 3 of these sites with only a few goodies. After finding no coins or anything that just gets the blood pumping we called it a day. When we got home to my house I said why don't we go and try the site where I found the 1839 SLD.He said let's go.My first good signal to dig turned out to be the 1889 IH.Unfortunately every coin found at this site must have been in the old house that burned down years ago and the fire causes every coin to have a black crusty layer on it.Doesn't clean off real well.Next signal was a button that says obryan bros.last find of the day for me was this old lock.Had a great time and am ready to go hit it again.Gotta go to work though. Enjoy HB

Nice Finds, buddy!  I really enjoyed hunting with you yesterday.  If you get that old Zippo open (after an oil soak, perhaps), I'd love to see a photo of it.  The padlock is awesome.

Congrats on such a great variety of finds, I persoanally like the stirrup over the lock, but both are good finds. I forgot to mention to Buckles that I dislike finding those zinc mason jar type lids. They usually indicate to me a very junky homestead and in the past have not had as much success at sites producing the zinc lids.

When I remembered it was in the back of my truck awhile ago,I went out and got it.I started washing it off and these initials appeared.Pretty far out if you ask me.I'll try soaking it in oil and see if I can get it to open.Or maybe I will leave it as it is.I don't see zippo on the bottom of it.

HB--are you sure it's a lighter inside and not some coins or something else?? Those initials are WAY COOL! I assume it's too late timewise, but is the last initial the same as the last name of the house owner on your map? Gotta go for that point of reference when possible!

Yeah it's a lighter inside Will. The initials don't match any names on the map.The Gravestone we saw matched the housesite you found the Heel tap.

Excellent! So the last site we were on could be his site on the map...we at least know that the grave sits on what was his property.

As far as that lighter goes, maybe the initials stand for Hilly Billy MetalDetectin'.

Once again, a great hunt with some really neat goodies found.
