Removing Scuff Cover...

Without manipulating your coil to control box wire, turn the machine so the cover is facing the sky.
Start at any point and just use your fingers at different spots around the coil. I assure you, it will come off. You may want to spray the coil with water first.

Some people reccomend using a water hose. Just be careful when you nozzle the stream down small not to wet your machine. I tried that with my Tejon coil cover and it didn't work because it was so tight. I think the Tejons are known for having tight covers. I bought mine used and the cover was already cracked, and when I finally got it off, I left it off. It lightened it enough for me to really feel the difference and like it much better without it. I hunt woods, grass, and plowed ground mostly where there are hardly ever any rocks and in the 6 years I have been using it there is not enough wear showing on it to say it was a bad idea to remove it. At the wear rate it is showing it would take me several more years before I would need to replace it,if then, and I really can feel that little bit of difference in weight. Even shedding that little bit of weight when you are an old man with much bodily wear and tare can bring some sweet relief when you want swing that 9-8 all day. HH, Cass

Spraying the coil with some water helps if it isn't to cold which will contract the cover even more. Sometimes it helps to insert a thin kitchen knife between the cover and coil and tap lightly while just holding the shaft. Slowly working your way around the outer edge. Do not try to pry off the cover with the knife or a screwdriver as you can damage the coil. Sometimes a shallow pan of warm water helps to set the cover coil down in.

Some guys have left the cover off and applied Marine Epoxy coating to the coil bottom and sides for protection. This may void the warranty on the coil only, but at least you never have to worry about black sand getting between the coil & Cover again.

Just be patient with removing the cover.

I found a very easy method. Use a small block of wood and tap, tap, tap it lightly with a small hammer. Work it evenly all around the coil. The wood doesn't damage the cover.
