Renewed detectorist from Ohio
Hello, my name is Mark. I guess you can consider this hobby as a renewed interest.
I got my first metal detector when I was about 13. That would have been back in 1973. It was one made by radio shack. I received it for Christmas. It looked like the Star Trek Enterprise on a stick. It had just a red light on the dome. No noise, just light. I poked around school yards finding mostly a few surface or just below surface Clad and trash finds. I got a job delivering papers and stock boy at a carpet store and upgraded to a Jetco Treasure Hawk. Still not finding pirates booty, life interrupted and I put it away only to get it out once every few years to make sure it turned on. Last year I wanted to take it up again and did some research and purchased the Fisher F2 kit from Big Boy Hobbies. This really changed my interest. I just love this machine.
I have found well over $125 in CLAD, A few old silvers, 1908 V-nickel, several wheaties, 4 .925 silver rings, a host of cosmetic rings one being a Celtic copper. My prize is an 1892 Barber Half. All of this has been found in just my local balfields and schools. So much trash and interesting items like batting cage tokens and a few foreign coins. One being a 1943 2 Ore from Denmark.
Not to mention hours of fun and excitement. I am looking forward to spending time reading and sharing on this forum.
