Stopped by my credit union on the way home from work Friday and picked up 5 rolls of pennies.
Results -
3 wheaties (1946, 1951, 1955D)
3 Canadian pennies (1965, 1970, 1977) - boy do I get a lot of Canadian coins this close to the border! -
and 75 copper memmies (1959-1981), which at 2 cents a pop yields $1.50 in copper.
Not bad for a $2.50 investment!

Nice going on the wheaties Bob. I've found 68 so far this year but haven't found a 1951 yet. And you found one in just $2.50. Funny how that happens. Finding 75 mems is above average too (30%). My regular $10 usually produces 15-20%.

I wish more people would do pennies and report the results. They're not as sexy as silver but the finds can be surprising.

Are you including the Canadians in with your copper mems? They're all 98% copper thru 1996.

Hi Immy,
Actually, no I wasn't including the Canadian pennies - I didn't know their copper content. Thanks for the tip - I just dropped them into my "copper" bag!
And speaking of silver - out of the 10 rolls or so of halves I have purchased so far, no silver yet. Not ONE.

Bob

Surprise, surprise, I just found a 1946 wheatie in my pocket change from blockbuster.

Don't you love when that happens? But if we only collected wheaties this way we'd be lucky to get two or three each year!
