Hello All,
I went to an antique dealer who specializes in American Indian artifacts and he looked over my items that I posted here a few days ago. He checked out the bannerstone, plummet, gorge, flint knife, and the lot points. He wanted to give me $1,1050.00 for the lot. I said no because I had a sneaking suspicion that he was going to sell and make a huge profit. Anyway he wanted to give me $650.00 just for the bannerstone.
As I said before I am into metal detecting and not Indian Artifacts so I have no clue where to go from here. I do want to sell the items but do not want to give them away either. What is the next step? Where do I go to get these artifacts appraised that is reputable. I am from NH and most of the antique dealers I went to just like me didn't even know what a bannerstone was. Any help would be appreciated.

Contact either Tom Davis or Monty Pennington. Both are very reputable and respected dealers in the indian artifact community. Tom Davis' number is 606-663-2741 and his website is .... http://www.tomdavisartifacts.com/ . Monty Pennington is also very good and his number is 859-624-2609. His website is http://www.penbrandt.com/penbrandtprehistoricartifacts/index.htm Tom Davis offers a $5 appraisal for indian artifacts, but I don't know about Monty's prices. Let us know what you find out.

After going back and looking at the pictures of what you bought for a dollar, $650.00 isn't a bad price for the Banner and $1150.00 really isn't a bad price for all of it. I'd go bak to the dealer and tell him you'll take $1300.00 even for all of it and I think you would getting a good deal and $1299.00 in profit. Tom Davis probably won't offer you any more than that since he is in the business to make money and he would have to jack the price up really high to make any money.

I'd have to agree. You aren't getting hurt at that price and you also have to remember you only gave a buck for the box.

I would agree with all the above really, depends on you. People often forget that "dealers", regardless if it's coins, antiques, artifacts, or whatever also have to put food on their table. If they all bought things for what they are "worth" and sold them for the same price it makes for a rather poor business in short time. I don't think that is a bad price for that particular bannerstone, I could never even dream of selling one if I found one because they are so hard to come by but... well, it all depends on you.
