Revolutionary War Belt Plate Reg. 53 [UPDATED AND NEW PICTURES]

Hey TNET,

So recently I went digging at a site occupied dating all the way back to the Revolutionary War. I found this piece several inches in the ground and immediately knew what I had. The back has the hooked attachment for the buckle. The only problem with this piece is that it looks to have been cut in half. Sadly it is missing its opposite end that should have attached to the belt. But still a great find in my book.

My question for you TNET is can you help me find another example of this plate? What regiment would this have belonged to? And is there any other information out there that you can help me find. I normally don't find Revolutionary War items so this is a new realm of artifacts for me.

Thanks in advance and I am sorry for the blurry picture but that is the best I can do with my cell phone. I can try to get some better pictures.

LOOK BELOW FOR THE NEWEST PICTURES!!

Happy hunting,

LuckOfTheIrish

Rev War 53rd! Even half is a great find! My book shows one complete, and one that has even less metal than yours. Definitely a rare one there!

Very cool, I would like to see the reverse, just for my own interest?

That's a great find. Very nice. :icon_thumleft:

Thanks for the ID guys. I knew I had something good when I pulled it out of the ground but a wasn't 100% sure what I had exactly. I have extensive knowledge of the Civil War and its artifacts so a Revolutionary War piece is definitely a pleasant surprise.. And a little bit of new territory. Once I get out of class I will post a few new pictures for you all to see!

For one of the very few RevWar belt plates to show up and get posted your half one is twice as good as half the other things we see posted up!

It's more than a lot of diggers will ever see

Great going!

What great find!!!!

Thanks guys I am glad you are enjoying the buckle. Here are my pictures from the day with all of my finds. It was a pretty incredible day if I can say so myself. I am also a little stuck on the crown piece so any ideas will be a huge help.

Overall what can I say I am still awestruck with this buckle!

You got into an awesome spot there, neighbor! Must be sobering to hold things that were probably last touched by hands born almost three centuries ago. Go find some more! HH

Thanks for the reverse picture.

That little pewter/lead-alloy crown finial is something I have had in the past. Pretty sure its not military & I always thought it was part of a toy. I think I have seen them IDed but not sure where. I hope someone chimes in...
