Hey guys,

I hunted an old ferry site along the Charleston shoreline that I suspected was a British crossing point during the Revolutionary War. All buttons recovered are made of pewter: the first has a large 3 on the center, the second a 19, and the third is blank on the front with P N on stamped on the back. Any help in identifying these would be greatly appreciated.

3rd Buffs... British 3rd Regiment of foot. The one in the book was also found right in your area.

19th Regiment of foot, (Circa. 1780-1782) The one in the book also dug in SC. I suspect a fairly rare button. Buffs certainly wouldn't be too common either.

Thanks for the reference material. Can you shed any light on the P N button. My research suggests that it is a patriot button, stamped on the back to conceal its identity and standing for patria novis (new homeland).

Sorry, all I can say is it's familiar to me, no more. Please do me a favor and hit that place hard!

Hey Ekeisler, looks like you are in the Charleston area as well. I use a minelab safari- these were pulled at around 8 to 12 inches. PM me if you want to meet up and hit a site together!
