Revolver - Liberty Cap?? - CW Button??

A quick hunt on a new permission from one of my geothermal customers here in Maine.
1700's home moved to current location in 1810' to become the local surgeon's office.
Digging was almost impossible due to 3" of ground frost. I was able to dig these 3 high tones on the south facing side of the property where sun was prevalent and the ground wasn't frozen.
Any information on the button would be great, also thoughts on the possible Liberty Cap?? The copper was unidentifiable before & after cleaning. I used the aluminum foil trick for definition/ contrast...what do you think??

Started doing some searching after I saw your post.

Smith & Wesson Double Action 44-40 Frontier Model Revolver manufactured from 1886 to 1913 (all frames manufactured prior to 1899).

Could be a 38 S&W revovler

The revolver is not an S&W. It is a cheap Belgian knock-off of a Smith and Wesson. You can tell by several differences, but primarily the front sight which is set back from the muzzle. S&W never mounted sights like that.

No problem Gene Mean! Unfortunately it doesn't have a backmark on it. And after a little research I believe it to be a Maine Militia button. All of the other MM buttons I found had a center star with designs surrounding them. But who know! ...I just feel blessed to have the opportunity to MD on some of these sites with the possibility of finding a cool piece of history
