Hi folks,
So I recently dug this butt plate from days of old and I would love to get an accurate description of what type of gun it came from
and the signifigance of the stamped 83 in the bent tang. Notably I excavated this button with my Nox800 about 50 feet from the edge of the road that is still called "The King`s Highway in Wells Maine. This area has been used and occupied since the early 1600s as far as I know. I forgot to ad that I was told by the land owner that Army troops used to stop on his land and bivouac going to and from the Ft. so this butt plate could have come from one of the guns, and the 83 could be a rack #

Thanks for all the input in advance
