Based in Kamloops, British Columbia, the unit began recruiting during the winter of 1915/16 in Kamloops and district. After sailing to England in October 1916, the battalion was absorbed into the 24th Reserve Battalion on January 1, 1917. The 172nd (Rocky Mountain Rangers) Battalion, CEF had one Officer Commanding: Lieut-Col. J. R. Vicars

Fantastic badge Cam! Was it pretty far into the trail? Could you have stumbled onto a camp or training ground (which I suspect didn’t really happen for CEF)?

Nagant, thanks for posting the info and saving me time from looking it up!

That's a really great find! Certainly not something that I've ever seen posted before, congrats.

Very cool find. Congrats!

Well truth be told after searching some bedrock and only coming up with hooks and weights. I went out to try some high bluff for some nugget detecting and when I finally got to where i felt like taking my pack off I set it beside a rock that looked good for sitting and it was a sun baker sitting down amongst the cobble. Couldnt believe it! Must of had a interest in the same bluffs?

Very cool relic, congrats! :icon_thumleft:

Sweet WWI badge
