Going on a road trip back to my hometown this weekend, I've got tomorrow off scheduled for scouring the banks there. I always thought my hometown wasn't that big but I just scoped out the banks via google maps and the route I've got there are 24 banks for me to hit(and there are even more than that in the city). That's probably too ambitious for one day since the wife will likely get bored and we probably have to move on to our other activities around 2pm. Wondering what peoples average times in banks are on a road trip, if it takes me 5 minutes inside each bank I should be able to do it all in 3.5 hours(2 hours plus driving to each) but if each bank takes 10 minutes it'd take about 5.5 hours which is right out. Anyway looking forward to seeing what if anything my hometown has to offer, wish me luck! Will post results Sunday or Monday evening.

I have never done a road trip. Its only boxes here. But good luck!! fill us in how you do.

most banks won't even sell boxes of pennies nickels dimes or quarters to you and tell you they would have to order them

Good luck Giniro, keep us posted! HH, Maverick.

Ok so Friday we went all over my hometown hitting 16 banks in total before we had to move on to our other weekend activities. Final results were 6 40%ers and 1 1964 out of about $300 in loose halves and rolls. I had a blast doing it and wish I could have gone to more banks but alas, time ran out. One bank I was told they had $46 in halves but none of them was silver, as the mantra goes buy them all so I did, there was a 40%er in there. Another bank the rolls they gave me were all marked with an X and produced 2 or 3 40%ers. At probably 5 of the banks they asked if I had an account then told me it didn't matter because they wanted to get rid of the halves. One bank I missed $60 in large dollar coins by a week but still hit a 40%er in the halves they had accumulated in that week. One bank had legit MWR's that had not been searched and the teller told me about how she picks silver out when she gets loose but doesn't search the rolls, that was nice.

It was a great trip for me and a great weekend. While I was in town I picked up my old coin collection I had stashed at my moms house, it's all foreign coins and I went through that and I think I've got a couple silver here, as pictured. Pretty sure the center portion of the $10 nuevo peso is silver, the 10 shilling is 1971 research indicates silver, and the 1/2 franc is 1959.

The steel pennies are from the coin counting machine when I cashed back in halves prior to the trip. Gotta love those magnets, glad they are within fingers reach and I was able to pluck these out. AG046.webp

Way better results than the past couple weeks around here just milling through other peoples dumps. Maybe I'll get around to getting an account with a bank that will order me a box, PNC says they have to order 2 boxes at a time. Maybe I'll just see if they'll order them and I'll get one a week. We'll see.

edit: oh I forgot, not pictured are the NIFC halves I got out of the trip, a 2005, a 2007, 2008, 2 2009's, and a 2011.
