Roaming along the River

Another beautiful :icon_sunny:

day, went roaming along the AR river.
I took pic's of an old bldg W.P.A., armadillo , lake scenes (Kerr lake), named for a Senator who along with the AR
counterpart, were responsible for the Mcclellan Kerr series of locks & dams along the river.
Found a large 'Alligator snapping turtle' skull, these are protected & getting rare to find here, driftwood, barn swallow nests under the hwy bridge, thousands of Cormorants, sea gulls, several white pelicans, & one blue heron.
Great relaxing day.

Nice pictures, 4th one down looks like a good place to do a little metal detecting!

All the reservoirs look alike on the Arkansas. This looks like Cleveland WMA on the upper end of Keystone lake and that looks like the HWy 48 Bridge. Monty

That they do, Monty, I worked on dam # 13 & 14 when they were being built, this is #15

Yeah, it's a large one, showed it to some guys , they told of one lots bigger on a 'jug line', that got away.
but they are protected, I don't know how you would 'release' one like that. :icon_scratch:

Very cool photos. Was watching something on OETA the other night about the WPA. Oklahoma had more school buildings and more miles of road paved by them than any other state.

Cool armadillo pic, are those thing aggressive? It looks like it's scooting away pretty quick.

Thanks, if it wasn't for the WPA I don't think we would of had very many bridges, culverts, etc...
Sadly, the souvenier hunters are running away with all the Concrete signs.

Thanks, the water was very clear, the armadillo's are very docile animals, they have very poor eyesight, this one stood on it's hind legs & sniffed the air when it heard my truck, I threw rocks on the other side of it to get it to run closer to me, probably never even saw me.
They migrated into this country , along with roadrunners, from the Southwest, the 'dillo's' dig underground burrows with their long frontclaws, they curve them up to get out of the water that settles in the tunnel, they eat mostly worms & insects.
We are also seeing 'blacktailed jackrabbits' moving in, they say the prairie is moving eastward at a gradual rate.
Our 'native species' are the cottontail, & swamp rabbit, the 'swamps' live along the wetlands, & they are getting scarce due to habitat loss, they are much larger than a cottontail.

I you have a boat, there are many detecting opportunities along the banks of reservoirs. I use to have a small bass boat and remember seeing old abandoned houses and foundations as I was fishing. Many of them were on public land being in the flood plain for the lake but you could only get to them by water. Monty
