Rock Carving-looks strangely like face

Found while stone/shell collecting along shore in Portsmouth, R.I.? Dimensions: 6 in long, 3 1/2 in wide, 2 inches thick, weight 3 lbs.? Was "staring" up at me & gave me a chill.? Looks like a shrunken head!? Any idea?? Native American made maybe?? There are barnacles where "nose" and "mouth" would be.? Any info. you might have would be appreciated.? Thanks!? Beachstroller in Florida...
