It's fair to say it has been a long time since I detected never mind finding anything worth while posting :unhappysmiley: Yesterday I went out on a club dig, I have joined this club because it's well run, and the organiser works hard for good land.

We hit a Roman area near Pocklington in Yorkshire, the fields where huge and one of my pet hates wheat stubble ??? but the ground was very sandy so easy to dig. About 50 turned up but the finds where a bit thin on the ground, bit of a surprise really for the area. Having just lost over a stone in weight my dodgy knee held up quite well and I managed about 3-4 hours detecting.

Best find for me, a very Nice Roman Siliqua of Julian, not sure of the mint, Lugdunum I think ? (perhaps Cru Dad might help) Hopefully now that the season has kicked of I might string together a few more finds to post :icon_thumleft:

sweet silver coin great save

I'd do stubble anytime for that silver! Killer shape it is.
Well short cut under 3", damn the 6-8" cuts that's just not right.

Wow - that thing is in gorgeous condition!! Great find SS!

Great save! I'm excited for Cru/Cru Dad to jump in with an id...congrats, that's a find to remember, I'd have better luck digging up the Golden Gate Bridge before finding something like that on our side of the pond...beautiful coin, Ddf.

WOW!!! That's just awesome!!! Nice recovery, glad back in the world for all to see. Congrats and HH

SS posted a Julian Siliqua with a confirmation request from us. Mackaydon has correctly ID’d mint already as Lyons with the Officina as P (No 1 workshop). However, he has not quite found the correct Obverse which on SS’ coin has NO DN or PF. The Obverse legend is FL CL IVLIA – NVS PP AVG which means the Coin is a RIC Vol VIII Lyon mint No 233 Reduced Siliqua AD 361-362 (Sears Vol V No 19123). If interested the Sears 2014 edition book value was set as VF £50 ($80) and EF £130 ($225).

UPDATE;

Cru'Dad did spot the E instead of F, but in his rush to email me forgot to comment. Also he spotted that the P in exergue is actually a D, another indication that its an imitation barbarous issue. A very nice example though!

Good to see you out on good land & getting a good find as well.

A good club is good news.

Now I've looked at it, I'm surprised Cru'Dad didn't mention the error in the Obv legend. Its starts with an 'E' instead of the F. Also the letter looks barbarous to me. I've learnt they have done some really convincing imitations which I think this 'might' be, specially with the error. (& the eye looks funny)

I think more interesting than the real deal.
