Found two Roman coins yesterday, the black one is easy its Julia Mamaea (silver) Denarius.
the other one is the problem its Severus Alexander, but it has a Radiate Bust and is the wrong size being Bronze and only 22mm Diameter . also too thin for a Bronze of Alexander. it just is not looking right . maybe its an ancient copy ?? Any experts out there.?

Were they found in the same immediate area ?

Hi, ikesdad, yes they were within 100 ft of each other on the same field .interestingly they are from the same family Julia Mamaea is the mother of Severus Alexander.:icon_thumleft:

Could either be a Billon tetradrachm, or a AR Antoninianus, both were washed Silver and come in around the 22mm diameter, obviously the silver has long gone. I would say looks more like a bare head, rather than a radiate.

By the way, The Julia is a peach of a find.

Yeap, as you know, it fits no known coin. Although both you & my Dad agree it has a radiate head, I'm not so sure its some other type of head gear, doesn't look that convincing in the photo. The Emporer is who you state & the reverse is probably Salus. I will PM you a contact, & please update us?
