Nice sunny day but that meant the early morning freeze turned into a WWI trench. We predicted (hoped for) 10 scrappies today & thats what we got! The condition were so punishing Cru'dad stopped after 3.5 hours & I throw in the towel at the 4 hour point. That was plenty on my weaker knee.

Tudor Button
10 Roman Coins
1561 Lizzy Sixpence - Cru'dad picked it off the top.:laughing7:

PS. Notice the lack of the usual average finds (like buttons etc) - a sign of a site coming close to its end. (economically speaking)

Well worthy of a pint or two I'd say ! Very Nice !!

Beautiful Lizzy! Luckily it survived the plow.

Smashing good find Cru’dad. Like Anton said, an amazing plow survivor considering the size.

Yeap that's what I thought & we just got it in time before the next round of discing.

Awesome! Great save.

I cant imagine a field of yours coming to an end

Great job on the Lizzy guys! That’s a hammered coin that I hope to find one day

Only in that after 10 years of gridding the same area, over & over, the finds are so few that its not worth our effort. If we are finding less than 1 scrappy per hour then its time to move to a site that produces 10. It's purely productivity based detecting.

Does that mindset change Cru if it’s a site that’s produced a high number of rare or scarce finds or if it’s a preferred date range?

''Does that mindset change Cru if it’s a site that’s produced a high number of rare or scarce finds or if it’s a preferred date range?''

It's purely done to ensure we use our most valuable resource (Time) in the most effective way. We prioritise based on other facts as well & a site with low productivity may come to the top of the list if all other options are unavailable.

We have discovered 40+ Roman Sites & we have to spent the limited time we have at the right places. Plus Cru'Dad gets bored if he's not continually GPSing Roman Coins.

really nice find, I envy you guys hunting in europe, your metal history goes back so much further than ours does.

Not quite true as your copper age, if I remember right is over 1000 years older than our Bronze Age (our earliest metal history).

Congratulations on the Big Hammered Silver and all your other finds. A tip of the hat to you and Cru-dad for working in a mud pit to get to those recoveries.

Congrats to Crudad on a big one! Not clipped, not broken, well centered... That happens rarely. With all that the wear doesn't mind. :icon_thumright:
