(the picture with the knife is Dad's 2 day [9 hour] explore on new land, pretty much a bust for any good areas)

Today we spent 5 hour 15 minutes finishing the new site we discovered by covering the remaining pottery scatter.

As we had no Roman Coins we were convinced last week we had a site that stopped being used in the 1st C AD. This theory was proved today with a rare Iron Age (Celtic) Bronze Unit of RUES 10BC-10AD. Its my first one of this type.:headbang:

2 Jettons
Buckles
Medieval Swivel piece
Dad got a nice silver seal with stone - 'Peace to you all' - 19th C.

That's the way to prove the date!! Excellent find.

Those are some cool finds, congrats Crusader:icon_thumleft:

I was wishing for a Silver Unit (a gold was a wish too far), but a Bronze still puts a nail in the coffin. It saved a difficult sticky dig. On the plus side it was T-shirt kind of day!

:icon_thumright:Congratulations:thumbsup:

Fantastic find, maybe silver around????
I like the silver seal, it's tiny!!hahaha
I still have high hopes for this site, good luck

Congrats nice finds! HH

I don't know much about those ancient coins, but it looks like an awesome find to me. Nice going!

Crusader, Love to see that (old) stuff you dig. Very nice....HH

That stuff is cool to just look at, I can't imagine what it must be like to actually dig it. Maybe someday!

Nice medieval rotary seal! I hunt on Saturday .. but later publishes.

I think we're too used to Crusader's awesome finds that we tend to overlook items like this as banner worthy. It definitely gets my vote!

Thats an awesome coin! Very rare that iron age sites were not used during roman times. At least in my area. Keeps finds to a minimum but a better chance to hit a really big find! Congrats!

Wow, what great finds! Can't wait to see what you pull out next!

That is what makes this special, we have no other 'transitional' sites that just stop in the 1st C AD. There could be many reasons, but they clearly traded with the Romans to get the brooches, nail cleaner, & bracelet, so why the sudden end.:dontknow: The only thing that makes sense to me to finish a site that had existed for 200ish years, would be to move to a better spot, maybe into a Roman Town.
We have a unique opportunity to update the Archaeological record for this site. Its been unexplored & the cropmark was marked on the Archies database as 'unknown date'. We are writing the pages of local history as we go along. Very rewarding work in my eyes.

It took about 20 years to get my first gold one, but as our research improved, so did our odds.:occasion14: But we still had last year without 1 silver & thats what I hope for this year, but you can only hope.
