round steel knob, looks like part of a tool?

found this curious item in the same area where I found an 1899 V nickel. It was three inches underground in an area that was formerly a lumber mill, near a wide "creek"

after soaking in penetrating oil, electrolysis treatment, and a brass wire brushing, I found several markings on the back including "1-" and what looks like either a "1/2" or "1/4". there is also what looks like a "D" on the other side

in most of the google searches I get pictures of planers, and hand-tools. Never seen anything like this before... thanks!
 

if you look close enough it looks like the hold down disk for a large saw blade.measure opening it should be the size stamped on object.modern circular saws still use same system.arbor bolt assembly

Saw blade retainer or maybe a head to a anchor bolt. So far I see a big washer and busted bolt for something.
