Hi all, Went back to battery Hill today, Sun was shining and wind was still a bit chilly.Well i spent the after noon digging targets around the ground pins for a Windlass bucket winder and then stared working the areas around the foundations of the ruined structures. Some of the foundation stones are huge. other structures were free standing with slate rock floor .Theres a huge stud plate water jacket which means.steam engines were once used at this mining site. Found a few quartz species and few other whats its. Any ideas on the copper with boats and trains ?

Way to go Midas!

Looks like it was a type of flask, cap on a chain, doesnt look really big. Is it associated with trains or just a pattern hmmm.

This is a great post. The pics, the site, the history, its all great. I am slowly working my way into the MD hobby, chasing down old mines is what brought me to this site though. So many excellent aspects wrapped up in one great package

Hi all, Got a day off work so i,m going back to the flat area near the ruins of Battery hill[pic of site] While i have straight past this section due to the amount of targets .Hundreds of them. Theres quite a few filled in holes by others around the section. No-one has tried this real junky area so i,m going to have a go. All modern rubbish is only in the 3 top inches. scrap the top away and put md back over target area. Signal from the clay underneath means we have an ojbect from mining days.Should be a big day on digging. I intend to dig all targets in the clay.

tinpan thanks for the replies HH

Your hard work, thinking about whats underneath you has paid off so far. If it takes digging to remove the recent layer you are back on virgin ground for detecting. I know you will make it work. Also wondering if you are taking advantage of the cool days to have a poke about, scout out places for the summer?
