The route down was pretty much the route up. The Rio Grande. Or the Jornada Del Muerto. A lot of stuff you read about the treasures in NM concern hidden Spanish mines from the fleeing Spanish during the Pueblo uprising. Some of the mines were hidden by the Spanish and some were hidden by the Indians to keep from being enslaved again.

FYI, if any of you ever get a chance to detect any of the Jornada, do it. I've foudn quite a few interesting items, including some valuable ones.

I have pretty well covered most of the route. Parts are pretty obscure. I have detected some of the rest stops along the way. I have found some interesting artifacts as well.
There are places still where the cart wheels had gouged out the trail into the stone and can still be seen. Google earth makes for some wonderful armchair treasure hunting!
I enjoy getting down on the ground with my detector...you never know what you may find in this area!
