Had a great time hunting a new site that had a homestead that had burned to the ground. The intensity of the fire was evident on some of the buttons and artifacts found. Some were completely black coated and melted. The window glass found was badly scorched on one side giving testament of the heat. The field was freshly plowed and disced. I was fortunate to break my five year drought finding my second Rev button. I did not realize what I had dug at the time. It had a thick black coating on it and it went into my pouch. When I started cleaning some of the caked on dirt and black soot from the button a crown appeared, I had one of those wonderful moments. The Royal Provincial button was a beaut and surprisingly intact except for the shank, thank you metal detecting gods. The 1787 New Jersey copper came out looking good except for the light plow strike, and some possible heat damage on the reverse. Have at it Don, the ears are pointing at the A... The 1787 Conneticut copper came out looking very good. It was great finding the CT, and the NJ copper from both of my home states. Also included in the mix was a very fried Vermont copper, a few large cents, A King George, 1st 1723, 2nd, and a 177? 3rd. A 1782 1/2 reale, 1858 flying eagle one cent, and a few Indians. The mechanical watch winder is sweet, after a short soak and a little work its back again, one of my favorites. There were many smalls found. Looking forward to the field settling in. Hopefully in the Fall its signal city... Art

AWESOME HUNT - AWESOME FINDS :icon_thumright:

Great group of finds!

Great saves, the condition of the finds are really top notch. Congrats on the button and the coinage and certainly a day to remember for many moons.

Art are you kidding me! That was an amazing hunt! The RP is a beauty as are the NJ and CT. The suspender clips seem a little out of place with all the 18th century material, but I still love to dig them. Love the watch winder too. I have only ever found one of that type. Looks like you have yourself another field of dreams!

Thanks Steve, It is a beautiful site with the icing...

What a day for sure. The location sure helped that button out a lot.

Without a doubt IP the black soot and soil saved this one. These types of buttons are almost always a disappointing mess.

Pretty sure I have dug more RPs than anyone else posting on the T-net and have never found one that was actually round so you should be proud of that find. I'm guessing whomever picks the banners on here doesn't realize the RP is basically the Rev War Loyalist equivalent to the USA buttons.... at least that they are the most common Rev War buttons to find.... and a nice USA pewter always makes it up top. There's no other way to look at it than some people don't seem to understand and the USA one gets up top simply because it says USA. Not to mention you dug some great stuff with it.

what a freakin hunt!, 2 state coppers, Spanish silver, buttons, relics!!, the stuff I dream of
congrats on a spectacular hunt my man!!

Congrats - You had a killer outing. A few nice coppers and a Rev. War button - I would call that one heck of a day. :icon_thumleft: I believe the tube-type object with the eyelet is a ramrod pipe for a musket. That's a good site your working. Keep going!

Thanks IP, I have found handfuls of pewters at numerous sites. I think it takes special circumstances to find any of these types of buttons in any kind of good shape. This is the very first round one that I have dug and very thankful and proud to add this Revolutionary War button to my collection. I hold it in just as high of regards as my not so round USA counterpart. After researching the Loyalists in the area I found that the 1st, the 4th, and 6th regiment had a major roll in the Rev war in the NJ area and makes it that much more special. I have to go through the muster rolls to see if a name fits with the site. You are right, it is a common rare round heck of a find, and without the USA attached to it, no wings.

The RPs were worn by multiple Loyalist units so there could be a much better button turn up. It's suggested the privates in the King's American Regiment had them and our sites tend to suggest that is true. But I think the Queens Rangers did also, and likely more in addition to that. It's all in my book but is a little too early for me to be cracking books open. :) Never the less, there could be a good marked Loyalist button close and would make a good addition to your RP, especially if the same unit used both.

Yes to any Rev finds. Thanks for the info. I will be searching this one out since there are new sides to the story. If we change the R to an I you can have your own regiment.

WTG Art on a killer hunt! Those coppers are in amazing shape as is the button!

A few more additions to the pot. The signals are very slow coming but working through the iron a few signals made it.
