found this at the site of an old V&T train stop I'm thinking its the door to a furnace or a stove.

Size? It might be a journal box cover from old train car, they have a door on the end of each axle to grease or change the brass or bronze journals.

taz, it would have to be a mighty old set of trucks, as the covers were usually made of cast. It would be helpful if we knew the dimentions of the door.

well the dimensions are about 6" by 6" a little more with the hinges and i had a welder buddy of mine look at it and said it is cast iron.

Carson, it is old. I agree with the other poster that it may be an inspection cover of some sort, although the fact is has no latch seems curious unless it hung vertically. The journal covers were cast, but they were cast in one piece, not riveted like this one is.

It's the doggy door flap for a pullman sleeper. So your little dog can go out to go potty, without waking anyone......... ;D...NGE
