s mint mark on halfs

are the s mint mark halfs worth keeping. i find one occasionally but this week in a 500 dollar bag of customer rolled halfs i found one 67 and 8 s mint halfs of diferent years. i know that they are worth more than face value but how special are they. and if hey are somewhat rare why 8 in one 500 dollar bag?

The S-mints are all proofs (assuming that they're all Kennedy halves). Why did you find 8 in one bag? Damnifiknow, but it sounds like somebody dumped a bunch of their proofs (or maybe their father's or husband's, after a death), not realizing that they are worth more because of their rarity than just $0.50. That is NOT a typical experience. I have searched probably 30K-40K halves, and I've gotten 5 Kennedy proofs (which, since they are all scratched up from the coin counting machines, are called "impaired proofs").

They are worth more than 50 cents ... if you can find a buyer. I have a bunch, but no one seems to want to pay more than .55 each for them. Not much of a premium. I have kept the ones i've found, as have most others, but in reality tyhey don't have a market, which is why someone probably gave up and dumped theirs.
