I went back to the same site that I was at last time where I found the two identical silver dimes. It was an exciting hunt! After about the first 40 minutes of not finding a whole lot, I got a half dollar signal and my hopes went up. It was a loud signal and so I knew it was either shallow, or something large. Often these signals are larger pieces of aluminum. I got down and with my pin pointer on the surface I could detect the signal. It was smaller than what a piece of aluminum should be to give that type of signal. Stuck my shovel in and popped it back and immediately saw the coin. It was mostly covered in dirt and I wasn’t sure at first if it may have just been a clad half.

Upon picking it up though I knew it was silver. Not wanting to rub it I took a second to look closely at it to try and determine what it may be, and was able to make out the liberty bell letting me know I had just found a Franklin half dollar! In total I spent a little over 2hrs and found a total of 47 coins with a face value of $4.34.

I found one wheat penny which is much less than last hunt when I found a total of 10. I also found two more of the Shell presidential tokens from 1968. I have enjoyed digging those. This spot is right next to a gas station that’s been around since the 1940s and so it makes sense to have now found a total of 3 of them. The Franklin is the first Franklin half that I have found and I am thrilled to have been able to recover it! Fun fact in 1954 the year this half was minted it had the buying power of over $6 in today’s economy!

Thanks everyone I was thrilled to find it! Hoping for more down the line. Still a decent bit of ground to cover more thoroughly at this spot.

AMAZING finds :) Thank you for sharing and making us jealous

That is a lot of holes to dig. Big Congrats on that big, beautiful Franklin half. What a lovely coin!!!!

Thanks! One thing I try to be good about is a quick recovery of the target. I think it’s a key factor in being able to get the good stuff. I break it down to three main factors- being at a good site, knowing your machine, and quick target recovery. Those three things done well result in a good hunt.

Congrats on that nice looking Half.
