Detector(s) used
Minelab Safari with SEF 8x6; coming soon: FORS Gold+
Just assembled my new detector. Very easy. I'm also surprised at how light this detector is. In addition to this, included with my detector was a Minelab digger. Off to a nice start!

Air tested a Mercury dime at 37 in coin, relic and all metal mode, came in around 38 in coin and jewelry mode. The flutey sound it makes is sweet. We'll see what it says and how it sounds when I finally find one in the ground.

Right now, I'm going to hop over the fence across the road from my house and test out the Safari around the old barn and see if I can get used to it.

Hopefully Ill pick up an indian head like that next week when I get mine, except maybe an 1877 in AU53, thatd be good. Great find and congradulations. :icon_thumright:

Wouldn't we all like an Indian Head with that date and condition!! But, we take what we get.

Gave the Safari another shot today at a school just to get some practice. This time I tried cross saving ferrous tones from the relic mode into both the coin and coin & jewelry mode to get used to the tones. I must say I prefer the ferrous tones better.

I then got brave and went in the relic mode. Got quite a few pennies from +33 (1954), +37 and +38 for more modern. I hit a clad nickel at a solid +13 at 6". No dimes or quarters, but I did ignore a few signals that I probably should have dug. To my defense, however, I was mainly concentrating on the penny/dime tone difference and nickel sounds. Got some pull tabs and beer tabs at different ranges, +15, +19, +40, the latter number I thought was weird.

I felt very comfortable in the relic mode, and who knows, I just may progress on to all metal mode after a while.
