My friend (Pikespeakcharlie)was telling me about this token he had found years ago. A few hours later I found one. The saloon tokens have gone up in value around here. I am not sure if I should clean it more or not. I could bring out the brass color on the letters with some fine steel wool.! Happy Hunting!! IMG_20210616_193645433~2.webp

Very nice Saloon token.

Very nice Saloon token.

Thanks Treasurehunter, I hope it's nice and cool where you are. It's hot up here at 9,000 plus feet.

That last line in Jeff?s attachment. Wow. Sounds like the lot of them were ?without culture? Him included [emoji2371]

Definitely different times back then. Lots of old west stories around here. This sure was a good one Jeff brought into light.

I visited Cripple Creek some years back. It's a neat old town and I like that they've tried to preserve it as such, even though some of it is just for the tourist's eyes. That's a fantastic token and no doubt worth some money. I'd leave it in that condition. For anyone wanting to read the lengthy story behind the shooting at that saloon, here's an interesting link - https://www.historynet.com/sam-strong-cripple-creeks-notorious-millionaire.htm

Thanks for that link Jewelryguy, if your ever in town again look me up. I really enjoyed the link you posted!!!

Can you believe it !! We were reliving me finding that token about 29 years ago and ya go out and get one:headbang: Congrats on a rare local token !! We will have to discuss my token finds every week and see what ya get :)
That's how it works, or your talking about something you never see & get it next dig...lol

The metal detecting radar of the mind is a funny thing. I'm drawn to certain spots, or definitely feel like there is something there that needs to be found.ore often than not that is the case!

Killer, killer token!
I was fortunate to dig hundreds when living in Colorado, and not a single one actually said "Saloon".
And never one with such great history attached to it.
You're making me want to fly out and hit Cripple Creek!

Thanks Carl, I sure feel pretty lucky. It sure was a great find for me, with the added history. You know how it is though, you can go out expecting something time and time again. And then when your not expecting anything a great find comes along. I had to put my sweatshirt on today:)
