Sand Canyon Pueblo

One of my favorite places to visit, and I'll give you a little history. This was one of the largest pueblos around, about 400 rooms along the canyon rim. In the late 1300's, this whole area was in turmoil due to a terrible drought which had set in. People also began setting up defensive measures. This village had a wall built around the north side, which I really thought was to direct water down the cliff to a spring. Around 1280 the village was attacked by invaders. Nobody has claimed responsibility. Partial excavations have been done at the site. Excavations have found several remains of people who were left unburied and died of violent means. After that the pueblo was destroyed and abandoned, no further research so no telling how many actually died. No further excavation or attempt at reconstruction has been made, which I think is good to just let it lay as it ended.
