Is everyone finding more sand these past few weeks? It seems that after new year's the sand started increasing big time (north Florida east coast) while the number of finds started decreasing.

Hope we get some northerly winds soon! 8)

More sand is an understatement... Man there's alot of sand in close.. Glad it's not my imagination..

In the Gulf of Mexico on the beaches of Alabama, the sand has been staying pretty much the same all winter, except when a storm comes through, then it's been paying to get out there afterwards!

We had some strong North winds yesterday but they have switched to the east, I went at low tide this morning and have nothing to show for it. The wind made low tide very high.

No sand in Minnesota..Snow report 2"-3" left in the cities. But ground is rock Hard..

In some spots over here I have noticed 1-3 extra feet since December!

I have heard reports from So Fla and sand is everywhere...

I don't want to sound dumb but where is all this extra sand coming from? Seriously, is this a normal occurance or is this something rare?

That is an interesting question and I'm sure that there are different opinions. I think sand is being blown from dunes in some cases, but in a lot of areas sand that was eroded last year has returned with winds. The beach is a very interesting place because it changes daily. It seems alive!

I have to agree with you. It is alive and I think it is sand that eroded previously or in my case all of the sand from the beach renourishment that got swept away pretty quick. Now it is just spread out all over the beach.

I have also noticed that High tide isn't nearly as high as it was in the fall.

Umm, I think that 2-3 inches left was before yesterdays EIGHT INCHES! Had to snow blow not once but twice yesterday. Think I'll see ground some time in May.

East winds were blowing a lot of sand along the middle to high tide area. I have also noticed that the high tides are not as high lately but the low tides have been lower.
