Sand scoop recommendations

I have a SS Scoopal, but I keep have to hammer the edge back into shape, after each outing.
I’m detecting in the upper Chesapeake, most areas the bottom is clay and clam shells.
I was looking at the CKG pro SS scoop Product Dimensions - 9.98 x 11 x 5 inches
Any others I should look at?

I don't believe I could spend that kind of money for one, seeing how I could get 3 stainless ones for the price. Hell, I got 2 over 20 years ago and still have both. One is new in the box still

I agree, it is crazy high..... can't remember exactly but I think I paid close to 700 after shipping. I do have a SS 720 which is close to 8 or 9 years old and it is doing great. But at 74 and having a few spots I have to walk a mile too .. I needed something that was going to make the trip easier. I noticed as I've got older I don't mind spending the money if I am finding gold, just spent twice that amount on a Waterproof 7mm neoflex semi-wetsuit to keep myself warmer when water temps start going below 65F to 50F...(And more flexible then a drysuit),... now if I was not finding gold I might think different.

I have a ckg stainless I got 18 months ago. It has been awesome in every aspect, dry to wet to water. A few months ago it got snagged an a lobster trap that was completely buried in sand and I tore the leading edge. I fully plan to repair it when things slow down as I have away my welding torches. I ordered a titanium one and it just seemed too big and bulky, especially to travel with on flights. Rethinking, I should have kept it for in the water. Next spring I’ll probably reorder it just for in the water. Different tools for different jobs. But I do love this stainless one. The only issue was the short handle was welded on and I sawed it off. I think they screw on now. Didn’t want the extra weight as I average 2-3 miles a day. I have 2 carbon fiber handles, une 2 piece for travel. They are amazing.

I definitely understand the weight difference because mine is heavy. That's because 20+ years ago, they were made way better with high-quality materials. I'll check the weight and report back on it. For me, it's not about the money either. More about what I'm getting for my dollars: quality or trash. I see too many reports about bent scoops and broken handles. Back in Ohio, I ran a route 4 or 5 days a week, hunting 10 hours a day, and never had the worry of a damaged scoop. If, in fact, I were to get a newer one, I'd have to buy two and keep them both with me so I would have a backup

Yesterday I did a third repair job to my stainless CKG but I know it’s going to fail when it encounters the first rock. So I bit the bullet and had the bride order a new CKG pro titanium. I think they cost $255ish from the manufacturer who I bought a scoop and 2 handles from. But I found them on sale (7 left) 6 now, from a place in Michigan. I don’t know if I can mention their name I don’t want to get in trouble here again. But they’re a popular store I buy a lot of stuff from. I think it was about $198.ish. I googled welding shop a few miles away I hope will repair my smaller stainless scoop. I love its size for traveling and digging smaller holes in the wet so I don’t have to back fill craters. NEVER SHOULD HAVE GIVEN AWAY MY WELDING TANKS AND TORCHES!

I've had this one for 20+ years, with no wear and never a broken handle. It's a sun spot

yea i gotta couple ive abused for over 20 years, would never even try any other, do have a cheap travel scoop. but chucks are by far the best

I have never broken a handle. My feeling is that the handle placement on today's scoops is incorrect, and the handle size doesn't match the tube size on the scoop. I have witnessed handles snap on just about every brand.

I really love my CKG stainless for its size (smaller for air travel) but I snagged a totally buried lobsta trap and tore one hole and the leading edge (which was a little small to begin with) and bought a new CKG titanium pro. The size was intimidating at first, but now I’m loving it. Especially in the surf. And the TSA will have to get over it at the airport. So now I’m tasked with repairing the stainless. I got a PM here helping me with choosing a stick welder (thank you sir) and I’ve been eyeballing everything whenever I’m out shopping with the bride. Then I realized I’ve had it all along. My girls hate metal on metal sound so much they bought me plastic and wood utensils monogrammed with “SILENCE, I KEEL YOU!” From Jeff Dunham comedy show. So I’m not using this anyway, and it seems perfect to fashion a new leading edge from and weld to the scoop. It was ten bucks 5 years ago. I guy I met at the beach a few days ago was using the same stainless scoop, and said it’s his 3rd one. If it works out I’ll update. But anyone else may want to give it a go before I buy a welder, 🤷‍♂️.
