But maybe it isn't not so bad. $35 for a season pass for parking at all beaches in Sarasota.

And if they have a police presence (monitoring who has paid and who hasn't), maybe it will keep the parking areas safe.

We all hate taxes and fees, but when you look at the quality of the beaches and walkways and parking in Sarasota county, along with the list of scheduled improvements, a few bucks a year for parking isn't so bad.

And heck, you'll probably find something worth more than that on your next hunt! (You should see the ring I found today at Sharkeys beach!)

I just  heard   today and  its   just  hearsay at  this  point ,  that  they  want  to ban  all  Metal detecting on  all  tampa bay beaches and  state  parks pinellas county . and  I  hope  its  bull ,, but  you   never  know.. someone  from  up  in  that  area  needs  to  check  in to  it  see if  there's  any validity to  it ..  keep  us  posted,,,,, Guzz1

I'm really surprised that it's taken so long for Sarasota County, to consider paid parking..... after the way the state and the federal government have chopped the amount of funding to the local government agencies. I am sure we'll all be paying for parking soon. That's one thing I really liked about metal detecting on the beaches in Sarasota County was the fact that I didn't have to worry about $5-$10 a day for parking. Oh well... the only chance that the parking fee won't pass is if the folks in the county stand together and protest against the fees.

I work in the world of politicians and it is amazing to watch. There seems to be only a handful that are in it for the love of their area. The bulk are clearly in it for a power trip and to advance their own personal agenda as to how they believe their constituents should live their lives. It only happens because the public allows it. I usually don't complain because frankly at this point in my life I am too stinking lazy to fight the fight and do anything about it. I figure that I shouldn't complain if I am not willing to do anything to put actions where my mouth is. Sometimes it is just better to vote with your feet and go where the government fits your life style. I am clearly in Florida for the money right now. When I retire, my plans are to head for the back hills of Tennessee or North Carolina far enough away from people that it will take well beyond my lifetime for civilization to catch up to me.

Hey Guzz, I am already developing my stealth detector for my left foot and my stealth scoop for my right foot. I really believe that they should ban Speedo Swim Suits on persons over 35 before they ban detectors. Talk about a crime! I saw a 90 year old on the beach with one the last time I was there. I was repulsed but I couldn't look away. I have had nightmares ever since.

Actually this could be a good thing. The parking meters. When we were hunting the beaches around Newport, Rhode Island we founds lots and lots of quarters. We were wondering why because our cheap beaches we find mostly pennies and small change. Then we went into town for lunch. You guessed it - all parking meters and they all took quarters.

So the law of 'unintended consequences' may prevail and your coin take may be considerably more. You have to have change to feed the meters.

I refuse to willingly fill the pockets of the (bleeping)politicians.

No offense to anyone intended, but I can see the day when America will be the same as england and australia. A bunch of nanny state teat sucking subjects. Not citizens,...subjects!

I truly enjoy the hobby of metal detecting., but I will be a sob if I will put my money in the hands of some (censured) (censured) (censured) that wants to STEAL from those that have found a way to enjoy life a little bit.

Has any one heard of " A death of a thousand cuts"? Think about it. Really think about it.
The powers that be are bleeding us dry, one small cut at a time.

There is just so much I can say on a public forum, but I hope that this rant will give pause to those that see no harm with what is going on.

they are called "user fees" and this is what you get when you don't want to pay taxes for anything. If you want to use the beaches, and you want the beaches cleaned, someone has to get paid to do the cleaning. Same thing with the parks, somebody has to do the dirty work to keep them clean, and someone has to pay for that person unless of course everyone were to volunteer to clean up after themselves. So, get used to it, everywhere. Taxes are like green fees, or country club dues, if they don't get paid, those greens get awfully tall and the country club just doesn't look as nice.

There are a few parks that the Conty owns and the city of Cocoa Beach can not put in there meters. Get there early or you will not find any place to park. They fill up.

That reminds me of the time I had a girlfriend down in St Petersburg, Florida. I picked her up one day and we headed down to Treasure Island. It was 1987, I was 18, she was beautiful...and then this guy walks by us, I had never seen anything like that and never want to again. It destroyed the moment. He was wearing a t-back, had to have been maybe 120 years old, each cheek had to hang down about 8 inches, his skin was so leathered from being in the sun so openly exposed. My girlfriend kept saying look....that was the end for us. After I dropped her home and headed back to New Port Richey, I never talked to her again. It was like a bad omen. That was the time they were trying to outlaw T-backs here. Up to that moment I thought they were the greatest thing on earth, but after that I was not only blinded, but understood why they needed to be prohibited, at least from people that shouldn't put them on.

As for the subject of the parking meters. It does stink. You would think as much as all of us pay in taxes etc to live here that they would at least cut us some slack on parking. There was a beach that I wanted to check out on Hwy 60, Clearwater side. When I stopped by there and saw it was $10 (or 12 or 15) to park, I just kept driving. I hope that it doesn't happen to you down there.

One day I might run into you down there. I hope to meet up with Cotton soon to get some beach hunting in.

[/quote]............Make sure you bring a tone of quarters for the meters............I can tell you from experience those parking fees are gonna climb once they get a taste of the money.......and fines for over time parking......Fort La dee dah must have those parking "enfarcement" officers hiding in the bush's just waiting on the meter to expire, you can't be 5 min over without getting a $25 parking ticket.

Yeah their catching up to The SE Beach parks. Deerifield bch, Pompano Bch, they all have meters. I think I owe a ticket at Pompano still, oops. You get hunting and lose track of time, and it only lets you put in so much. Making it so it wont even be fun to go to the beach, well I mean the tourists

What is the best way of getting rid of parasites?

Saying "shoo-shoo" doesn't seem to work too well.

Telling them to not bite and cause grief, doesn't seem to work too well.

Getting together with your neighbors and saying "we vote you out" doesn't seem to work too well.

How do most folks in Florida get rid of parasites ? Is there some kind of repellent that we haven't tried yet?

Can someone tell me the surefire solution?

they already have laws against hunting in parks, even tot lots, you can only hunt in the sand at the beach, all other parks are off limits, I can just imange how much trash would build up in the sand an in the water without hunters keeping it clean an they have to pay the county to clean it for them. It want stop with the beaches, it will be boat ramps, then it will be special events at civic centers, if you leave your house you will pay to park........
