Nice day, upper 30's, so my son and I got out for a few hours this afternoon, our site choices were limited due to frozen ground so we chose to explore a new area near an early 1700's saw mill. Unfortunately it was also a WW2 P47 bombing range area.
In the woods, the ground was not frozen at all if in a southern exposed area and in shady areas it was frozen. The field we hunted was not frozen, only on the top two inches, than it was like cement. My son got a small cuff size button in the field. I had to leave a coin type hit till another day but most likely it was a 50 caliber shell casing.
I got a nice heavy 18k plated copper wedding band, and a few 50 cal shell casings and one rotted old spoon bowl.
My son got a 1904 Indianhead penny and a interesting very thick disk of lead stamped with the initials C P
It would have been nice to get a large copper today but we both were just happy to be able to get out together in the middle of February with so much cold weather and snow not far away.....
