Got out for a couple of hours on Saturday to a city park. Found several clad coins and a couple of items that tells me something was there before the park. This token reads on one side "J.W. Hunt Warsaw, KY" and "good for 5c in trade" on the other. I plan on trying to find out some information to see what J.W. Hunt was and what year this could possibly be from but have to find the time. The other item is off a buggy I think. Any information would be appreciated.

Nice token, but I have no Idea on the other. Interesting piece though. Good luck, and HH......

Token is nice. I like tokens.

As to the other, I have no immediate guesses. Hole near apex suggests something was nailed or held into this, so perhaps a handle for something?

Did a little research on your token in the U.S. census - James Hunt, age 32 in 1910, owned and operated a restaurant in Warsaw, Gallatin Co. Had a wife (name illegible) and three children. By 1920, he is listed as James W. Hunt, a "stock trader" (?), age 42, wife wife Nellie, age 39. These two listings appear to refer to the same person.

I love the token!!! Congratulations :icon_thumleft:

Thanks for that information. I called the Gallatin Co. Library and they were very helpful. They researched this gentleman and found that J.W. Hunt was born in 1875 and died in Warsaw in 1936. He owned a grocery store there from 1915 to 1920. They also informed me of a older gentleman that collects merchant tokens that is interested in this. He lives in a senior citizen home so I will get back down there to give this to him. Maybe it will complete a collection for him.

Nice token, and giving it to the old guy.......nice gesture
HH
