Life is full of choices....& ours is 'which field & when'.

Yesterday we tried a field that we think has some potential but we could only do the edges for just less than 2 hours. Dad did well & got a 1873 Sixpence & a Henry III hammered Penny.

We then moved to a nearby 'hunted out' Roman Site for 3 hours. Not too much left but on the edge of the site we got 3 scrappies (not pictured), a broken Roman 'Dolphin' Buckle & a counterstamped halfpenny.
The good news is that they started a deep plough as we were leaving.

You got hammered silver, so the day was well spent! The counterstamped halfpenny is interesting. Do you know what the stamp was used for?

Dad got hammerd.

Some were stamped as advertisements. This one is hard to research as I can't make out the full stamp, it also has a 'crown' stamp on the reverse, which is odd.

I meant that 'you' as a compliment for the team!
Thanks for the explanation, could the stamped crown something official then?

It suggests that it is, but I'm not aware of them ever doing such a thing.

Incredible...... as usual. You guys rock. :headbang:

Nice Silver, and the C.S.ed coin.
And if that is a toy wagon wheel ? that's kind of cool.

That's quite a haul you guys, nice!

You seem to come home with a nice pile of relics and coins every time out Cru. I can't imagine how many hammered silvers you have. Do you have an approximate count?

Nice going on the hammie and the milled silvers. The counter stamped is kind of interesting as I'm wondering if it has a crown stamped on it that it might of been used as a weight measure?

Wild guess - 600?
