savage family diggers

Me and the family was driving through Gettysburg and saw savage family diggers filming a show. I wonder were they are panning to dig? One thing is for sure the show will make it seem like anyone can strike it rich in this area...haha have at it!!!!! Detector sales will jump with people thinking that they will hit it BIG.

That show is a little fetched and does give a bad image of the sport, but everyone has their own ideas and ways. I love Diggers, and there's a new one starting this week called dig fellas at 7pm central time on the travel channel. It looks like it may be a good one.

Those idiots don't even swing their MDs correctly. They swing the coil so that it raises side to side. Dunno how much they're missing out on, but the more they miss, the more they leave for the rest of us, so I'll not say that too loudly :laughing7:

I've heard a lot of bad things about MD shows in general and Diggers specifically but I do have to say that despite their misleading and idiotic lingo I felt they acted quite professionally in the episode I watched.

I'd like to give Savage all my finds and have him sell them for the prices they get on the show. I'd have $Millions in finds. The show makes us all look bad. I'm with BayouJoe and cit4sw, I like the show Diggers and although it's a bit corny with the lingo, I think it's the closest show to realistic that I've seen. It would be nice if Diggers would once in a while mention "we tried three spots and spent 12 hours there and didn't find anything". I've found some great spots this summer, but I also spent plenty of time hunting spots that turned up nothing or just junk.

It seems like some of the appraisals on the stuff they find are a tad unrealistic too..I worry about seeking my first permission too when shows make it look like we all bring in backhoes and dig monstrous holes in lawns...I like diggers...but they should do an episode on gentle recovery

Diggers is definitely the most accurate show so far as to what we actually do. The values of the finds definitely seem a bit inflated there as well...although to their credit they do say "potential value" when they show it. Their excitement is a bit over the top....although I understand excitement is definitely part of the hobby (anyone who's ever seen a Bill Ladd video knows what I'm talking about....Yeeeaaaaaaaaah!!!). The one episode where the guy crawled through the doghouse screaming after finding something good was pretty funny. Neither of the guys on the show seem to know how to dig a good plug either. They should have a small segment on proper plug digging. Digging a good plug and leaving the root structure of the grass as intact as possible is vital when you want the grass to survive.

well I will add my 2 cents worth...since savage family diggers and diggers have come out people definitely have an altered view of us regular guys that detect...I have honestly had people ask me if I will be digging huge holes and what everything is worth..
in my humble opinion these shows do not have a good effect on us or the hobby......savage is so fake that is not funny plus it makes us all look like greedy people that just want to tear up places......diggers is just ridiculous in they way the jump around and talk like 10yr olds....I seriously have had people ask me if I will be jumping around and screaming like the tv show if I find stuff.....plus they make it seem like all we are interested in is money value and I don't know who values their finds but they need to do some more research....and if you pay attention sometimes you can tell that some of the finds are either buried and refilmed or set up.....I know they are doing a tv show but why cant it be realistic..show the worthless junk they find and explain how long it actually takes to film a show..
Also these guys supposedly have hunted for years and are such great hunters yet in an episode they find a 1838 large cent and he says it is the oldest coin he has found

I could see that if they were new to the hobby but I found several old large cents in my 1st 5 yrs......hopefully the new series with LADD will be better....

I would like to see a new reality show where Savage and Todd Hoffman are dropped off on a desert island to look for buried treasure and gold. Leave them with 2 weeks supply of spam.

Then, come back in, oh... say 5 years or so, and see how they did.

WEll one thing is for sure wether we like or hate'em There is not one person on this form that wouldn't take there job...travel wile metal detecting that would be the dream job I'm spittle jealous myself. The digger show wile a little korky they seem like really nice guys.
