First visit this new year to a confederate site that received incoming artillery rounds–30lb Union parrot shells that were air bursts. I retrieved two bases, a nice cone piece, a smaller piece and what appears to be a brass sabot piece. Also recovered what I believe to be a tent stake and the smallest hatchet head recovered to date. One other item will go through electrolysis and is unidentifiable.

Looks like a sabot piece to me. Good digs. There may be a whole one in there somewhere deep.
