Scored a bucket list coin yesterday!

Got out yesterday at a farm field were there once was a home. Asides from some old trash didn’t find much until I dug a mud caked coin. At first I thought it was a quarter. Noticed it was not reeded edge. I put it in my pouch and once in the truck I used my finger nail just enough to expose the word “Half”! My first Half Cent. I took my time cleaning her and ended up with a decent specimen. She is my oldest US coin, 1833! Today me and the kids hit a field nearby and we found a decent “bird point”.

Congrats on your bucket lister, Cladder. That is a tough coin to come by. I only have one in 30 years of detecting, and its not in as good as shape as your is.

Thanks Tommy! It’s funny I’ve seen a few large cents dug by my buddies but I’m still waiting for one of those!
I took my time cleaning it and I think it paid off. I did noticed the dirt came off easier while the coin was still moist from the dirt. From now on I’m gonna carry a bag so I can store a coin in a clump of dirt.
