I went scouting for an hour after work along a colonial road dotted with mapped and unmapped cellars. My best finds have all been "uncharted" ones dating back as far as 1740, so I went for a hike.

I came across a possible site, but I have doubts to its age or whether it was even a home. Perhaps a barn.

The aim was colonial so I fell a bit short. Most of this was mid-late 19th C.

Good digs and good luck.

Congratualtions on the nice finds! :occasion14:

An 1865 Two center and an 1897 Indian Head Penny.
Both of those keepers would make me happy.
Congratulations

Nice finds Scrappy! Thanks for sharing...

I still have not found a 2 cent, I want to find one. At least you didn't have to break out the machete!

Very true Brad. I moved on from a very early site for that very reason. I needed a break. I was expecting to find another early spot but it wasn't meant to be.

Nice 2 cent pc. Much better than the one I found. Glad you were able to get out. Our weather has turned crappy again. I may have to go mudding before the weekend is out.

Even though you didnt hit the colonial era, those are still a couple of nice finds Steve.

I can feel your disappointment Steve, Heck it's like me pulling clad from a yard where the house was built in the early 1900's. I'd love to pull those targets any day on any hunt. Congrats on pulling that CW era 2 cent piece and the other finds.

Haha. Nah, it's all good. If every hunt was a success we would get awfully boring. Hopefully I'll have some good stuff lined up for spring.

Is that buckle silver with a steel center post? Nice 2¢ piece. I haven't found one yet

Thing about those 2 cent coins, almost everyone I've ever seen, both dug and in coin shops, is that they seem to always have some wear to them, some are real smooth. I find this curious, as obviously they've were in circulation for a long time, but the denomination, two cents, was certainly in high demand. I wonder about when they ever disappeared from circulation....1900's maybe?.... I just can't imagine them being passed around in the 20's....maybe they were.:dontknow:

Oh, by the way Scrap....
your new avatar.... not familiar with that... is that from your work?

Awesome 2 cent piece! I have an 1866 that's in about the same condition, maybe a little more detail that I received from my grandfather a few years back. Not sure when he found it, but it was definately in the ground. I love those old odd coins from that era.

Good coins! at least some targets for the breakfast

Nope. It's a flag for a proposed county on eastern Long Island. In an attempt to succeed from Suffolk county on eastern long island in 1996, a vote was made of residents from the area. The result was 76% of citizens wanted to secede. NY state put an end to the "uprising" and us "EastEnders" Will never forget. The flag is a a symbol of pride to Eastern Long Islanders.

Scrappy what detector were you using? Just curious what that would ring up on the deus.
Kyle-

I guess I should have specified I was talking about the 2 cent
